AvtoVAZ CEO Maxim Sokolov said that the LADA Niva Legend (classic Niva) will get a driver airbag. It will be installed on the car this year.
According to the top manager, the steering wheel is a very complex mechanism, so many tests had to be carried out to equip the Niva with an airbag. Sokolov also said that a front airbag will be offered as an option on the Niva Travel. At the same time, there are no plans to equip the SUVs with side airbags.
This was a purely technical solution necessary for the ER-GLONASS system to work.
As a reminder, the problem with airbags on LADA cars arose in November last year. The sanctions imposed in September of the same year against AvtoVAZ began to take their toll. It was then that Granta lost its airbags. Later, interruptions in the supply of these safety devices affected Vesta. In February 2024, it became known that VAZ had found a reliable supplier of airbags, and Vesta and Granta cars were again equipped with them.
