The Soviet four-barreled GShG-7.62 machine gun has been improved to combat kamikaze boats. The weapon was modified by Russian engineer Igor Vasiliev. Initially, the model was developed as a machine gun for helicopters, but now it can be installed on boats, buggies and other types of transport.
The key point of the modernization was the replacement of the gas engine with an electric drive. The old engine led to overheating after 8 seconds of continuous firing. After that, the machine gun had to be cooled for 15 minutes.
We removed the gas engine, replaced the gears in the gearbox. That is, we did not touch the main parts of the machine gun at all.
The improved GShG 7.62 model is capable of producing from 5 to 100 rounds per second. This increases the continuous operating time of the weapon.
During the tests, the machine gun was installed on a boat. Its operation was checked in pitching conditions. As a result, it was possible to hit a target with a diameter of one meter from a distance of 150-200 meters.
The modernized GShG 7.62 machine gun is planned to be used in the fight against kamikaze boats.
