The crew of the multi-purpose diesel-electric submarine "Dmitrov" (project "Varshavyanka") carried out torpedo firing at an underwater target during exercises in the Baltic, the press service of the Baltic Fleet reported.
The maneuvers in the Baltic took place over several days. The submariners practiced searching for and detecting an underwater enemy, tracking it, evading pursuit, repelling an attack, and counterattacking with torpedoes.
The firing was carried out with ammunition without a warhead. All training torpedoes were collected by a torpedo recovery boat.
The press service added that during the torpedo firing, the crew of the "Dmitrov" practiced new tactical attack techniques, taking into account the improvement and enhancement of anti-submarine weapons capabilities.
"Dmitrov" belongs to the low-noise Russian submarines of the "Varshavyanka" project, which the West fears and calls the "Black Hole." They are distinguished by a well-designed streamlined shape and a special hydroacoustic coating of the hull. Submarines of this project serve to protect the coast, naval bases, and port infrastructure.
