Russian soldiers have turned a part from the BMP-1 into a powerful towed artillery gun, combining its "Grom" gun with the wheel base of a mortar. This was noted by journalists from the Western publication Army Recognition.

Journalists pointed out that the 2A28 "Grom" smoothbore gun was removed from the BMP-1 and installed on the wheel base of the 2B9 "Vasilek" mortar. They suggested that Russian soldiers are using homemade weapons for infantry fire support.

Technical characteristics of the "Grom" gun:

  • direct fire range - up to 750 m
  • maximum firing range - up to 1300 m
  • ammunition: PG-15V HEAT rounds, OG-15V fragmentation rounds
