Russia has begun developing its own portable game console and software for it. The new product is being developed by the Scientific and Technical Center of Information Technologies "ROSA", Izvestia reported.
Experts are working on devices based on the ARM architecture, which is popular in smartphones and tablets, as well as x86, which is mainly used in laptops and desktop computers. The operating system may be ROSA Fresh, a free Linux-based operating system.
The timing of the devices' appearance on the market is currently unknown. The question also remains, where will the games for these devices come from.
The developers are focusing on the niche of portable game consoles, which are currently occupied by Valve, Asus, Lenovo and MSI. They produce similar gadgets at a price of 600–700 dollars.
In March 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin instructed the government to consider the issue of organizing the production of portable and stationary game consoles, as well as creating a cloud system for delivering games to users.
