Russian Ministry of Transport to tighten requirements for parking electric vehicles

Changes are planned to be introduced to the traffic regulations

The Russian Ministry of Transport plans to amend the traffic regulations, including obliging electric vehicle drivers to vacate special parking spaces after charging is complete. A tender for the development of "scientifically sound proposals for the creation and development of a unified parking space" worth 4.4 million rubles has appeared on the public procurement portal.

The terms of reference for the tender state that the traffic regulations need to fix a ban on stopping and parking without the purpose of charging in parking spaces. Currently, electric vehicles and hybrid cars are allocated parking spaces near charging stations. However, some drivers leave their cars there even after they are fully charged.

What experts say

Auto expert Maxim Kadakov explained that owners put electric cars on charge in the evening and pick them up only the next day. During this time, several electric vehicles could be charged at the station. In his opinion, the idea proposed by the Ministry of Transport is correct, but it is not yet clear how to control the charging of cars.

From a technical point of view, it is not difficult to control the charging of electric vehicles, said Konstantin Alyabyev, a representative of the Punkt E charging station operator. He suggested indicating the electric vehicle number in the charging station application. The data will be collected by the server and transmitted to the city parking management system, he explained.
