Chinese company OSChina, in collaboration with Russian 3Logic Group and Xellon, has launched the open-source code storage platform Gitee. Its data is located in a data center in Moscow.
Now, Russian developers will be able to use open-source software, including the Hugging Face library for working with artificial intelligence (AI). The repository also stores OS, databases, and containerization solutions.
According to Xellon representative Alexander Kaloshin, around 100,000 open-source projects will appear on the Gitee platform by the end of the year. This will help Russian programmers who have been disconnected from the Western GitHub.

The Ministry of Digital Development planned to launch a state-owned analogue of GitHub, but later abandoned this idea.
What Experts Say
Rustem Khairetdinov, Deputy Director of GC "Garda," stated that the repository market will be segmented. However, it is still unclear how these platforms will be able to earn money, he emphasized.
Another market expert added that the appearance of Gitee is the first step towards the expansion of Chinese companies in the Russian IT sector. This will affect not only the use of open-source code written by Russian programmers, but also development tools. Such a policy may create threats to the development of own technologies in the future, he concluded.
