Yandex reported that since the beginning of the year, the number of calls from unknown numbers has increased in Russia. Most often, Russians are disturbed by scammers.
The AON service registered 530 million calls from unknown numbers since January 2024. This is 20% more than a year ago. 57% of these calls were unwanted.
Since the beginning of the year, telephone scammers have become more active in Russia, the number of calls from them has increased by 19%, credit organizations have started calling 7% more often, and companies selling insurance policies - by 5%.
There are also indicators with a minus sign in the Yandex service statistics. Russians are bothered with offers of various non-banking services 38% less than a year ago, and the number of calls with the imposition of communication services decreased by 29%.
Note that scammers most often introduce themselves as employees of law enforcement agencies. They talk about alleged money transfers made to unknown persons, or organizations banned in Russia, and scare them with an allegedly initiated criminal case. Also, attackers can scare a person with a story about a relative who was in an accident. He allegedly needs to be protected from a criminal case.
Experts in the field of information security recommend not talking to unknown subscribers on such topics and immediately hang up.
