Employees of the Moscow Institute of Applied Geophysics recorded two flares of the highest class X on the Sun on the morning of May 8. Scientists emphasized that four flares of such a high class have occurred in the last two weeks.
According to the institute's press service, one of the flares, lasting 51 minutes, occurred in the X-ray range in spot group 3664 (S22W11). It was accompanied by a disruption of shortwave radio communications on Earth. The flare caused a coronal mass ejection.
Another flare of the same power was recorded at dawn. On Wednesday, class X flares became the fifth and sixth this week. In addition, scientists recorded class M flares.
The explosive process of energy release in the Sun's atmosphere causes solar plasma emissions. Its clouds, reaching Earth, provoke powerful magnetic storms. This affects the operation of electronics.
