Tire production in Russia grew by 34% in the first quarter of 2024

Manufacturers promise new brands, prices continue to rise

Retail prices for passenger tires in the first quarter of 2024 increased by 12-13%, and their production increased by 34%. In total, 21.7 million tires for all types of transport were delivered to retail chains in the first quarter, which is 21.3% more than a year earlier. 51% of them are of domestic production.

Active growth in production is observed in the passenger tire segment. In the first quarter, 8.7 million of these tires were produced. In total, Russian factories made 11.1 million tires.

By March 2024, according to the CRPT, the average price per tire was 6.4 thousand rubles, and in the passenger tire segment - up to 6 thousand rubles. At the same time, truck tires in Russia fell in price by 7.2%, to 24.3 thousand rubles per piece.

Auto expert Maxim Kadakov does not rule out that tires will become more expensive.

In winter, I said that at the beginning of the spring tire change season, prices would rise by 10%. But it is possible that as demand grows with the advent of warm weather, prices will rise even more.

New premium tire brands

Soon new premium brands will appear on the tire market in Russia. For example, Gislaved (the former Continental plant in Russia) plans to launch a new premium brand on the Russian market.

The management of the enterprise has serious plans. The plant has joined the tire cluster based on Cordiant JSC and plans to produce up to 2.1 million tires for cars by the end of the year, which is 12% more than last year. Recall that the plant's capacity is 3.5 million tires per year.

In addition, the former Bridghstone plant in Ulyanovsk, which is also part of Kordinat JSC, plans to restart tire production by the end of this year. The company's products will include premium tires. The plans include the production of 1.2 million tires in 2025.
