Russia Starts Producing Wide Eco-Friendly Fluoropolymer Films Instead of Foreign Ones for the First Time

They will last more than thirty years on construction sites and in greenhouses and can be recycled into granules

The Rostec Scientific Center "Applied Chemistry" (GIPH) has launched the production of wide fluoropolymer films up to 1.6 meters. This is the first time that fluoropolymer films are being produced in Russia, and the films themselves are unique in their characteristics.

GIPH assures that their fluoropolymer film can be used six to ten times longer than similar covering materials: more than 30 years versus 2-5 years of use by competitors. Also, the new film:

  • is able to retain 95% of its characteristics even after ten years of use;
  • is recycled into secondary granules while maintaining basic properties;
  • provides increased yields due to the fact that it transmits 95% of light and more than 90% of rays in the ultraviolet range;
  • has an anti-drip effect - it does not collect condensate, which contributes to excessive humidity in greenhouses, hotbeds, greenhouses, and can destroy the crop.

It is planned to produce up to 5 million linear meters of fluoropolymer film per year, which will replace similar imported products. But the film can serve not only in the agricultural sector. According to GIPH, it "successfully replaces glass, polycarbonate, polyethylene and other polymers", and can be used in many areas: from architecture to the aerospace industry.

Prior to this, GIPH had already developed a number of other import-substituting solutions. In particular, these are its own Russian rubbers for construction, footwear and clothing production.
