The popular foreign language learning platform Duolingo may be blocked in Russia. In February, the service received a letter in which the supervisory authority reminded it of the ban on publishing materials promoting non-traditional sexual relationships.
Currently, the inspections are ongoing. Roskomnadzor has not received a response from Duolingo representatives.
According to Deputy Alexander Khinshtein, the probability of blocking Duolingo is high. If the administration does not eliminate the violations, the application may be blocked under Article 6.21 of the Administrative Code of the Russian Federation.
It is worth recalling that complaints about the language service came from representatives of the Siberian public organization "Radetel". The application contained tasks with impermissible words and formulations promoting the LGBT movement (recognized as extremist and banned in Russia).
