Rosatom employees involved in the construction of the Akkuyu NPP in Turkey have begun full-scale commissioning works at the first power unit. The construction site was visited by the corporation's CEO Alexey Likhachev.
The Russian delegation, headed by Likhachev, inspected the nuclear and turbine island facilities of Unit No. 1, as well as the coastal hydraulic structures of the nuclear facility.
The assembly of electric motors for the main circulation pump units is in full swing.
Akkuyu NPP is the first station being built in Turkey by Rosatom. The republic's authorities have already announced their readiness to transfer a site to the Russian corporation for the construction of a second NPP. The plans include the creation of a third station to strengthen Turkey's energy security.
Akkuyu will operate four power units (with a capacity of 1,200 MW each) with VVER generation III+ reactors. The first power unit should be commissioned no later than 2025. It is possible that this will happen ahead of schedule.
