The multi-purpose nuclear submarine "Kazan" successfully launched a "Caliber-PL" cruise missile at a ground target at the Chizha training ground in the Arkhangelsk region. This event is part of the Northern Fleet's combat training in the Barents Sea.
According to the Interfax agency, the missile was launched from a submerged position. The combat firing was successful, and all flight and technical parameters were confirmed.
The "Caliber-PL" is a cruise missile that has high accuracy and is capable of striking ground targets from the sea. Arming with this missile provides the Northern Fleet with strategic flexibility and efficiency in solving various tasks.
The nuclear submarine "Kazan" belongs to the fourth generation of submarines and has a reduced level of acoustic field. The underwater cruiser is capable of performing a salvo launch of cruise missiles and carrying up to 40 "Caliber-PL" cruise missiles or 32 "Onyx" missiles. Also, submarines of project 885M "Yasen-M" can launch hypersonic cruise missiles 3M22 "Zircon". The nuclear submarine "Kazan" - the lead submarine of the "Yasen-M" project - was launched in 2017. The completion date of the tests was repeatedly postponed. It was transferred to the Navy on May 7, 2021.
