Employees of the All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia (VNII GOChS) are developing an armored vehicle for transporting unexploded aerial bombs and landmines to a training ground for their subsequent destruction.
Andrey Lebedev, a senior researcher at the institute, said that VNII GOChS prepared a technical assignment for the development of such a vehicle in 2023. Specialists also determined its appearance.
The vehicle should provide an increased level of safety for pyrotechnicians
He emphasized that sometimes unexploded ordnance is found within the city limits or near a critical facility. And to destroy the projectile, it must be delivered to a special training ground in an armored vehicle that has an explosion-proof body-container.
What should be the equipment of the armored vehicle:
- remote robotic device for delivering ammunition from the place of detection to the armored vehicle
- crane-manipulator with a lifting capacity of up to 1.5 tons
- cargo body-container
- explosion-proof container
The pyrotechnic vehicle must transport explosive items weighing up to 5 kg in TNT equivalent.
Currently, Russian soldiers use drone sappers for demining.
