The Russian Environmental Operator (REO) has developed domestic biogas plants for processing food waste into electricity, thermal energy, and fertilizers for agriculture.
In a year, the capacity of one Russian-made biogas plant can reach 130,000 tons of organic waste per year. One plant can produce per year:
- 10.5 million cubic meters of biogas;
- 25.8 million kWh of electricity;
- 26 million kWh of thermal energy;
- 120 thousand cubic meters of fertilizers.
The basis is European experience — there are about 17,000 biogas plants there. According to the developers' estimates, Russia does not need so many of these plants: about 4,000.
The preliminary cost of building and launching one such station is not specified. However, it is noted that such stations can be self-sustaining thanks to the production of electricity and fertilizers.
