Stockholm Institute names largest arms exporters. And Russia is not in first place

The United States, France and Russia are among the top three arms exporters

The United States ranked first in the ranking of the largest arms exporters. France came in second, and Russia dropped to third. This was reported by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), after analyzing data on supplies for 2019-2023. In the previous report, the analytical institute called Russia the leader in arms sales on a par with the United States.

The institute's report indicates that the United States increased exports by 17%, France by 47%, and Russia's arms supplies decreased by 53%. It is noted that the United States now owns 42% of the entire arms market.

The top 10 exporters also included:

  • China
  • Germany
  • Italy
  • Great Britain
  • Israel
  • South Korea

Reduction of Russian arms exports

In the last five years, there has been a drop in Russian arms exports. In 2019, there were 31 purchasing countries, and in 2023 — only 12. Mainly, contracts for the purchase of Russian weapons were concluded by Asian, Middle Eastern and African countries. India, China and Egypt purchased the most weapons.

Russia participates in international arms exhibitions. Earlier, it presented its samples of aviation, unmanned and heavy equipment in Saudi Arabia.
