A pilot batch of "Chaika" strike drones, built according to the "tailsitter" aerodynamic configuration, will be delivered to Russian military personnel in March for testing in combat conditions, the "Stratim" Design Bureau said.
The design bureau explained that the "tailsitter" aerodynamic configuration has its advantages. "Chaika" takes off like a multi-rotor copter, and then switches to flight mode like an airplane-type UAV.
The drone has the ability to take off from just a small area, it does not need a catapult, a runway, or a gunpowder start
Technical characteristics of the "Chaika" drone:
- Flight range - up to 30 km
- Speed - up to 100 km/h
- Payload weight - up to 5 kg
Earlier it was reported that the design bureau is preparing to test an analogue of the "Geran" kamikaze drone.
