The titanium nuclear submarines "Pskov" and "Nizhny Novgorod" of Project 945A (code "Condor") of the Northern Fleet, located at the Nerpa shipyard (a branch of the Zvezdochka Ship Repair Center, Snezhnogorsk, Murmansk Region), will be sent for repair with subsequent modernization. However, at the moment, work has not yet begun. This was reported by a TASS source close to the Russian Navy.
Initially, it was planned that the titanium hulls of the submarines would remain without modification during the work, and all systems would become new. But this concept has not yet been implemented. Repair of titanium submarines has not begun
At the moment, TASS does not have official confirmation of this information.
The main armament of Project 945A submarines is cruise missiles and torpedoes. These submarines are the only titanium ones in the Russian Navy. The working depth of Project 945A submarines is 520 meters, the maximum is 600 meters. Autonomous navigation is 100 days. Underwater speed is 35 knots, and the crew consists of 65 people.
The first multi-purpose nuclear submarine of the "Condor" project was launched in 1989. Submarines of this project were considered the most inconspicuous among all nuclear submarines of the Soviet fleet. They are equipped with six 533-millimeter torpedo tubes that can carry S-10 "Granat" strategic cruise missiles.
Earlier in February, a TASS source also reported that the "Irkutsk" submarine of Project 949M of the Pacific Fleet was launched in 2023. Repair and modernization of this submarine are still ongoing at the berth.
