Органы на заказ: в Сеченовском университете создадут инновационный биореактор

The device will be adapted for various bioengineering tasks by 2027

Sechenov University launched the "Organ on Demand" program in 2024 to create an innovative bioreactor. The device can be adapted for bioengineering tasks, said Petr Timashev, scientific director of the Scientific and Technological Park of Biomedicine at Sechenov University.

To grow vessels, it is necessary to achieve fluid flow at a certain speed so that the vessel itself is under mechanical stress

To grow neurons and nerve tissue, electrical stimulation will be needed, he explained. That is, for each individual case, a combination of factors is needed that a conventional bioreactor cannot provide.

However, the Sechenov University's development, with the help of mechanical, electrical and other influences, will create the necessary environment for tissue growth. It can be used to grow biological equivalents and to test drugs.

The first organ will be the periodontal complex - tissues that ensure retention and physiological regeneration of the tooth. Scientists believe that by 2027 they will be able to reach the level of clinical practice.

Earlier it was reported that in the spring of 2024, Russian cosmonauts in the scientific compartment of the ISS will test the operation of the 3D printer "Organ.Avt" in zero gravity. They will print human organs.
