Russians and residents of other countries around the world experienced a massive failure in Telegram on Sunday afternoon, February 18. Problems with Telegram began to be recorded from 14:20 Moscow time. The situation has now stabilized.

Failures were recorded everywhere: from Central Asia to Thailand and Iraq

Users on the Downdetector app complained about problems with sending messages and in the mobile version, failures in the browser version, and the inability to connect to the server.

According to another service, Brand Analytics, by 14:40 Moscow time, the messenger's operation had been restored for European users, and by 15:30, the number of user complaints had decreased to several dozen.

Representatives of Telegram have not yet commented on the failure. However, Roskomnadzor has already announced its preliminary cause - it was stated by the Monitoring and Control Center of the Public Communication Network based on the Federal State Unitary Enterprise "Main Radio Frequency Center", which is responsible for the operation of the national domain name system.

It is worth noting that shortly before the failure, Telegram indicated that it might soon launch a package of new features for business in the Premium subscription. The Telegram Crawler service, which automatically tracks changes related to the messenger's structure, discovered new icons in it, they appeared after and in the beta version of Telegram for macOS. Their purpose is still unknown, but, according to their description, it is assumed that in premium business accounts it will be possible to link chatbots for working with messages, use message response templates, specify business hours and the location of the organization.
