Russian electronics manufacturer Aquarius has begun developing a mobile operating system (OS) based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP), according to informed sources.
It is claimed that the company plans to install the OS on its own smartphones and tablets for subsequent sale in the government, corporate, and consumer segments. Aquarius will have to submit the relevant documents to the Ministry of Digital Development so that the agency can include the OS in the register of domestic software.
However, the electronics manufacturer has not officially confirmed this information. The Ministry of Digital Development explained that the software must undergo examination before it is included in the register.
The main competitor of the new OS will be Aurora from Open Mobile Platform. The firmware was recognized as a breakthrough of 2023 in the field of technology. It is pre-installed on their devices by many Russian electronics developers.
