The High-Precision Systems holding company of Rostec has announced the modernization of the new MC-572 Astarta sniper rifle, developed by the Tula Central Design and Research Bureau of Sporting and Hunting Weapons.
The weapon is currently undergoing new tests to check its operability in various operating conditions. According to the manufacturers, the rifle has undergone ergonomic improvements. Military operation of the "Astarta" is planned in the near future.
The MC-572 is a large-caliber self-loading sniper rifle chambered in 12.7x108mm. It can engage both armored vehicles and enemy personnel in shelters. The self-loading mechanism contributes to high shooting accuracy: during tests, a group of five shots from 100 m showed a dispersion of only 1.5 cm.
Compared to the popular American counterpart, the Barrett self-loading large-caliber sniper rifle, it is several times more accurate. The Barrett has a dispersion of 6 cm.
