New Ground Control Stations for Spacecraft Developed in Russia

Mass production to begin by the end of 2025

The Russian Space Systems holding (part of the Roscosmos State Corporation) is working on replacing ground-based automated control stations for spacecraft.

Working design documentation is ready for the new facilities

These stations are located throughout Russia and at the Vostochny and Baikonur cosmodromes. They monitor Russian spacecraft for scientific and socio-economic purposes.

For example, they collect information about the state of the launch vehicle, the upper stage, and the spacecraft during the launch, help receive and process information, and send control commands to the satellite at all stages of flight. However, some of these systems are outdated, some require import substitution, and now RKS is creating new models to replace both.

The functionality of the new stations will change slightly - it will be supplemented by full control of satellites in low Earth, geostationary and highly elliptical orbits, and the reception of information from them on Earth. Prototypes of domestic stations are already being assembled, tested and prepared for integration into the existing structure. Their mass production is scheduled to begin by the end of 2025.
