Russia has replaced American throttle valves for KamAZ through import substitution

The first prototypes are awaiting at least 3,000 hours of testing

Specialists from SKB-3 of the military-industrial holding "Kingisepp Machine-Building Plant" have developed a technology for manufacturing castings of the A2105-T02 IMI NORGREN throttle valve as part of import substitution. The domestic parts are intended to be installed on Russian KamAZ trucks - the research was conducted for their manufacturer.

A throttle valve is a device that restricts and regulates the flow of air in gasoline engines. Their operation depends on the amount of air-fuel mixture. The KamAZ valve was produced by an American manufacturer - IMI Norgren, and it needed a domestic replacement. In the Leningrad region, they figured out how to get out of the situation. Part of the engine was essentially just copied.

The castings must be made of a complex aluminum alloy AC4Mg. It has very low fluidity, which threatens the appearance of casting defects "incomplete casting" and "cold shut". Specialists from SKB-3 used vacuum casting technology, which made it possible to obtain high-quality castings that meet all the parameters of design and technological documentation.

As follows from the text of the technical task for the development of a domestic analogue of the throttle valve, which was compiled by ANO "Agency for Technological Development", now the prototypes of throttle valves are waiting for:

- accelerated bench tests to confirm the mean time between failures of at least 500 hours;

- accelerated bench and field tests to determine whether the devices can operate in a car for at least ten years;

- accelerated tests as part of the electronic control system of KamAZ diesel engines to confirm the mean time between failures of at least 500 hours.

All tests should take a total of at least 3,000 hours. Also, throttle valves from KMZ will be tested "as part of industrial engines (power unit, pump drive)".

Also, a mandatory condition for the operation of the product in the engine is trouble-free operation throughout the entire service life of the engine and vehicle. In road conditions, this is at least 1.5 million kilometers, and in off-road conditions - at least 25 thousand hours.
