Российские снегоболотоходы «Архант» отправятся работать в Арктику

They have been tested on the Kola Peninsula and in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug: frost and impassability are not a problem

The Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug has tested the unmanned all-terrain vehicle "Arkhant-10", which can withstand temperatures as low as -60°C.

The "Arkhant-10" was tested in the forty-degree frosts of Yamal with a driver in the cab - in both cases, the vehicle coped with the work without breakdowns or problems<br>

During autonomous tests, the all-terrain vehicle calmly worked through various types of terrain and coped with the tasks. It received commands through the control system unit, where the operator sent tasks.

"Arkhant-10" is a "descendant" of the famous "Sherp" by Alexey Garagashyan. The all-terrain vehicle was put into mass production in an unmanned version in 2023.

This ten-wheeled amphibious vehicle has a three-axle articulation unit. Its front section can move left and right, up and down at an angle of 30%, providing excellent cross-country ability in difficult conditions.

Inside, it has a 2.8-liter diesel engine with 120 "horses", all-wheel drive and automatic transmission. "Arkhant-10" has a number of modifications - from industrial to medical. It can handle cargo up to 3.5 tons or can carry up to 22 people. At the same time, the all-terrain vehicle itself is lightweight: the body is made of aluminum, the frame is galvanized. This helps to resist corrosion, as well as reduce the overall weight of the car and increase maneuverability.

The all-terrain vehicle can be controlled both remotely by an operator and move along a pre-built route in unmanned mode - even at negative temperatures. For example, during tests in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in this mode at -30°C, it covered routes of varying degrees of complexity with a total length of 140 km.

Other versions of "Arkhant" were also recently tested for frost resistance. In November 2023, these all-terrain vehicles participated in expeditionary tests in the Murmansk region on the Kola Peninsula. All-terrain vehicles "ARKHANT N" and "ARKHANT N-Arctic" went on the expedition "Clean Arctic - East - 77", organized by the Russian Academy of Sciences to fulfill state assignments in the field of scientific research in the Arctic.

In seven days, the "Arkhants" overcame forest tundra, snow and ice, mountains, different types of soil, rapids and landing on the shore. And they showed that they are quite capable of serving in expeditionary, rescue, and industrial purposes in the Arctic and Far Eastern regions. As representatives of the company noted on their YouTube channel, "ARKHANT N" and "ARKHANT N-Arctic" will be used for the development of the Arctic region and the Northern Sea Route. It is likely that "Arkhant-10" will now be added to them.
