The Russian government plans to launch fare payment using passenger biometric data in six more cities by 2025. It is expected that face payment will become available in the metro of Nizhny Novgorod, Yekaterinburg, Kazan, and Samara this year. And in 2025 - in St. Petersburg and Novosibirsk.
The funding for the installation of the necessary equipment is estimated at 260 million rubles, but additional costs are not excluded. It is expected that in addition to the introduction of the biometric payment system, it will be possible to link social cards, which reduce the cost of travel.
The Ministry of Digital Development of the Russian Federation stated that the budget for each city where this technology will appear will be approved separately. Approximately, equipping one station with two terminals for face payment will require about 2 million rubles. The operation of the service requires another 800 thousand rubles each month.
Biometric fare payment launched in Moscow in 2023. It was used by more than 300 thousand passengers.
