Для дорог и переправ Арктики разработали особый состав для обработки снега и льда

Thanks to it, residents of remote and hard-to-reach areas will be able to maintain contact with the "Mainland" longer until spring

Bauman Moscow State Technical University has developed a new composition for creating a special coating for Arctic winter roads - roads in hard-to-reach areas over frozen swamps, rivers and lakes. Such roads made of ice and compacted snow and ice crossings are the connection between the inhabitants of the Arctic and the outside world.

The technology of scientists will improve the wear resistance and strength of winter roads, improve the coefficient of adhesion and contribute to the extension of the service life of winter roads

The development involves the use of a combination of aqueous solutions of modifying hardening compounds and a dispersed antifriction phase in the formation of the ice cover of the winter road.

A regular ice structure is formed, containing damping interlayers between crystalline formations - the ice matrix becomes stronger. And the antifriction dispersed additive increases the adhesion force of the wheels and the coating. The modified coating can help reduce the impact of the sun on seasonal bridges and roads, and slow down their melting.

The technology was presented to the Governor of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug Dmitry Artyukhov at the Congress of Young Scientists in December 2023. After that, the Department of Transport of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug and Bauman Moscow State Technical University will open the first experimental sections of seasonal roads with modified ice cover in February. The Department will provide the necessary material and technical base, sections of the winter road, and will monitor them throughout the entire service life of the seasonal road.
