Since 2023, Muscovites have been able to pay for travel using biometric data in the metro, as well as on river and rail transport, and all directions of Aeroexpress. This was reported by the official portal of the Mayor of Moscow.
To pay, passengers need to stand on the black sticker in front of the turnstile and look into the camera. The fare will be debited from the linked bank card, after which the turnstile doors will open.
It is specified that more than 150 thousand trips are made daily in the capital using the biometric payment system. More than 330 thousand passengers of urban transport have chosen "face payment".
The Moscow authorities recalled the start of testing the linking of Muscovite cards to biometrics. Soon, beneficiaries will no longer need to attach a transport card to turnstiles in the metro and on the MCC. Payment using biometric data is a voluntary decision, the mayor's office emphasized.
It was previously reported that in 2024, stores may launch a biometric payment service for alcoholic products. Thus, the buyer will not need to present a passport to confirm their age.
