GAZ Group is in the final stage of searching for a technology partner to revive the Volga brand. The first car is planned to be presented in the spring of 2024.
The Nizhny Novgorod company already has a Chinese partner — Foton. With its help, the Russian concern produces the Valdai Next medium-duty van.
According to media reports, Foton also has developments in passenger sedans. At the same time, sources exclude cooperation between GAZ Group and large Western and Chinese manufacturers due to US sanctions.
The first Volga was the GAZ M-21 sedan, which was produced from 1956 to 1970. Then, from 1968 to 1986, the GAZ-24 came off the assembly line. All subsequent models were its restyling.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation stated earlier that Volga will be localized over time, abandoning the components of the technology partner.
