Опережают «Abrams»: газотурбинные двигатели для российских танков Т-80 начали производить в Калуге

Their power is planned to be increased to 1500 horsepower

Kaluga-based PJSC "KADVI" has started producing GTD-1250TF gas turbine engines for the Russian T-80 tank with a capacity of 1250 horsepower. In its time, the Soviet predecessor development, the GTD-1000TF, was the world's first such engine installed on a serial tank.

The gas turbine engine allows the combat vehicle to start almost immediately, without warming up in any frost. It can run on aviation kerosene, diesel fuel, A-72 gasoline, a mixture of different types of this fuel, and other variations of it.

Since 1985, our factory has produced 1500 tank engines per year. At the time of its appearance, the T-80 was recognized as the best in the world. And even today, in all respects, it outperforms the gas turbine Abrams.

It is noted that the GTD-1250TF will be upgraded to a power of 1500 horsepower.

T-80 tanks were produced at the Omsk Transport Machine-Building Plant, which is now part of the Uralvagonzavod concern, from 1979 to 1991. In October of this year, the management of Uralvagonzavod reported that it may resume their production.

In just 17 seconds, a tank of this model accelerates to 50 km/h, while it does not have to stop to fire. T-80s are known as "flying": they can make jumps of up to 14 meters while moving. They also approach the enemy almost silently.

Since 2016, according to the instructions of the Ministry of Defense, T-80s have been deconserved and modernized from warehouses. This is how, for example, the T-80BVM with increased firepower and improved handling and the T-80UE-1, which is equipped with a thermal imaging sight that increases the ability to fire from a 122-mm gun, appeared.
