The first smart financial camera appeared in Russia - how it works and why it is needed

Tinkoff's development helps to count not only QR codes, but also handwritten data for payment

Tinkoff customers can test a novelty in the Russian banking sector - a smart financial camera. It is available on Android smartphones with the bank's mobile application version and higher, as well as for iOS users in the DocStorage application.

For example, the camera can visually identify cats and dogs in the lens and offers to transfer the amount to a charity foundation for homeless animals

How does a smart financial camera work?

Tinkoff's Center for Artificial Intelligence and Payment Technologies uses computer vision technologies - they help to recognize different objects: people, animals, or something else. Natural language processing is used to read numbers and handwritten text from any surface.

This is done by neural networks trained on a large array of data. At the same time, according to representatives of the company, the technology does not transfer customer data to third-party services, and the use of a smart financial camera is safe.

What can a smart financial camera do?

In addition to animals, the camera recognizes more than a dozen options for information so that the client can solve a variety of financial tasks:

  • recognize bank details without a QR code;
  • recognize a phone number for transfer via the bank's mobile application, even if it is handwritten;
  • pay by QR codes.
In the near future, the smart camera will be able to recognize people, cars, as well as other complex moving and stationary objects for identification and/or making payments and transfers.
