The largest domestic concern Kalashnikov, which is part of Rostec, plans to start production of an improved AK-12 assault rifle by the end of this year, said Andrey Baryshnikov, managing director of the enterprise.
The top manager said that Kalashnikov is seriously increasing the volume of production of a wide range of military products.

In November, it became known that Kalashnikov had completed the implementation of a three-year contract for the supply of AK-12 (the main individual small arms of the Russian Armed Forces) to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. The company has started implementing the next contract.
The updated 5.45 mm AK-12 is assembled and disassembled according to a simplified scheme. The machine has an ergonomic buttstock, a new diopter sight and a forend. At the request of the customer, the engineers made the necessary improvements to the weapon. This had a positive effect on improving the shooting characteristics, in particular, its accuracy and grouping.
Earlier, a source reported that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation is considering PPK-20 and PP-2000 to replenish the emergency supply of pilots. The department will make a choice by the summer of 2024.
