The President of the Russian Union of Auto Insurers, Evgeny Ufimtsev, suggested that from the beginning of 2024, uninsured vehicles under OSAGO will be identified using cameras. This will only apply to those who have violated traffic rules.
Russia has been trying to launch this system for the past two years. However, in large cities like Moscow, it is problematic, as the capital's daily traffic reaches 4 million cars. To check OSAGO information in Moscow, it would be necessary to build an entire "silicon valley". But if done selectively, a giant digital resource is not needed.
It is known that the State Duma deputies adopted in the first reading a bill providing for amendments to the law on OSAGO. The document abolishes the obligation of the car owner to present an OSAGO policy upon registration.
According to Ufimtsev, if the law is still adopted, then cameras should be used to control uninsured vehicles. According to the Russian Union of Auto Insurers, in October of this year, the average OSAGO payment amounted to 100.6 thousand rubles, which is 22% more than the payments in January.
