Russian response to HIMARS: Rostec claims that the "Tornado-S" is as powerful as the "Iskander"

"NPO Splav" has increased the firing range of the "Tornado-S" MLRS to 120 km

The "Tornado-S" multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) developed by specialists of the Tula-based JSC "NPO Splav", thanks to extended-range missiles (120 km), are as good as the "Iskander" operational-tactical missile systems (OTRK) and can be used where the use of OTRK is excessive. This opinion was expressed by Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial Director of the Rostec's cluster of conventional weapons.

According to him, the "Tornado-S", created to replace the "Grad" and "Smerch" MLRS, can hit individual targets and "areas". MLRS crews use powerful high-precision ammunition. Ozdoev stressed that Rostec will continue to improve the technical characteristics of the "Tornado-S".

The accuracy of the "Tornado-S" is very high

The power of the warhead is sufficient to destroy even a well-protected object. It is known that the "Tornado-S" is a modernized version of the "Smerch", which received new means of communication and control. Engineers of JSC "NPO Splav" have increased the firepower and accuracy of the MLRS. It is called the Russian response to the American-made HIMARS MLRS.

The "Tornado-S" is based on 12 guides (part of the launcher device, which serves to direct the flight of projectiles, usually in the form of pipes or beams - editor's note www1.ru) for 300 mm caliber rockets. At the same time, each munition can be launched according to an individual flight mission thanks to the GLONASS system.

"Tornado-S" can be used for defense and during an offensive. MLRS have been in operation in Russia since 2012.

Earlier, Rostec reported that they could create a robotic reactive system of volley fire based on "Smerch".
