Employees of the South Ural State University (SUSU) have developed an Android application called "Digital Asceticism" that helps to get rid of gadget addiction. The application is available in the RuStore online store.
The developers offer users a 7-day course that develops critical thinking and helps to avoid leaving a digital footprint. "Digital Asceticism" teaches breathing techniques and encourages users to keep a diary of conscious use of smartphones and other smart devices.
IT experts have positively assessed the Russian application. However, clinical psychologist Dmitry Dolgitsky disagrees with this assessment. He believes that "Digital Asceticism" will not replace live communication for users, so it is pointless.
In his opinion, digital addiction arises from boredom and a lack of contact with the outside world. Healthy habits such as sports, walking in the fresh air with a pet, meeting friends, and going to the cinema will help to get rid of it. Any activity that makes a person leave the house will serve as a digital detox.
