It is necessary to prohibit Russians under 18 from riding electric scooters and other means of individual mobility (MIM) as soon as possible. These include gyroboards, unicycles, skateboards, segways. This opinion was expressed by the Deputy Head of the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Moscow, Evgeny Loginovsky.
The representative of the department explains this initiative with accident statistics. In particular, from January to September 2023, about 300 incidents involving minors controlling an electric scooter occurred in the Russian capital. Loginovsky believes that in Moscow for other MIM drivers, it is necessary to limit the speed to 20 km/h.
Similar proposals were made in St. Petersburg. In October 2023, the deputies of the Legislative Assembly appealed to the Cabinet of Ministers of Russia with an initiative concerning the ban on riding scooters on sidewalks, as this threatens the safety of pedestrians. In addition, the St. Petersburg deputies proposed a complete ban on the use of MIM for persons under 18.
It was previously reported that in Russia a technology was invented with which you can control an electric scooter with the power of thought. The experiment was conducted by the kickscooter service Whoosh.
