Russian "Progress MS-24" saves the ISS from collision with space debris

According to preliminary data, the ISS orbit altitude has been increased by 900 meters

The Russian cargo ship "Progress MS-24" helped the ISS avoid colliding with space debris.

According to preliminary data, the ISS orbit altitude has increased by 900 meters.

The incident occurred the day before, on November 10. "Progress MS-24" turned on its engines at 18:07 Moscow time. They worked for 316.5 seconds and delivered an impulse of 0.5 m/s, moving the station in orbit by almost a kilometer.

What kind of debris threatened the ISS is not specified. However, it may be the astronaut's bag that was lost during the spacewalk on November 2.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has lifted its ban on spacewalks for astronauts until the end of the year, related to the accident on the Russian module "Nauka."

When Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub successfully completed a multi-hour spacewalk after the accident on October 26, a spacewalk was scheduled for astronauts Jasmin Moghbeli and Loral O'Hara on November 2.

During almost seven hours of work outside the ISS, Moghbeli dropped a bag with tools for replacing a bearing on the left solar array into space. The bag began to rotate around the Earth in front of the ISS, and even received its number "1998-067WC/58229" as a serious space object.
