The Russian Kinzhal hypersonic air-launched missile system, which is equipped with MiG-31K interceptor fighters of the Russian Aerospace Forces, will be able to change targeting in flight, according to an informed source.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on October 18 that he had instructed the Russian Aerospace Forces to begin regular patrols of the airspace over the Black Sea with aircraft carrying Kinzhal missiles.
It later became known that the missile system had been significantly improved and posed a more serious threat to the enemy. According to the source, Kinzhals can be programmed in flight, that is, to change the strike not from the ground, but from the board of the MiG-31K. This will allow for the rapid use of missiles and more accurate strikes.
Kinzhal missiles were tested in December 2017. Following the test results, the missile systems began combat duty in the Southern Military District. At the end of 2021, it was reported that a separate regiment with MiG-31 interceptor fighters equipped with Kinzhals would appear in the Russian army.
