Expert Dobrovolsky explained why hydrogen cars have no future

Head of CVT AFK Sistema explained the lack of prospects for the hydrogen car market

Hydrogen cars have no future, and this has been proven in practice, said Yuri Dobrovolsky, head of the Center for Hydrogen Technologies (CVT) of AFK Sistema, at the Territory of Energy Dialogue-2023 conference.

The production and sales of Toyotas and other cars have been stuck in the same place for 5-7 years - several tens of thousands of pieces per year

But the situation with the production of buses and trucks on hydrogen is different - it is growing exponentially, he added.

According to Dobrovolsky, this is due to the lack of developed infrastructure: a car battery can be charged anywhere, but in the case of a hydrogen car, you will have to go to a gas station.

The head of the CVT did not rule out that municipal services and taxis, as well as car-sharing service cars, could run on hydrogen. But for other cars, this is a dead end, the expert concluded.
