Moscow monorail to get magnetic cushion and go unmanned

The universal urban transport system could be implemented in other regions of Russia after testing

The modernization of the Moscow monorail transport system (MMTS) may be started as early as 2024, following the signing of a concession agreement by a private investor and the Moscow government at the end of this year. This is reported by TASS, citing AO Corporation "Moscow Heat Engineering Institute" (MIT).

The modernization of the Moscow monorail is expected to be completed in 2027.

The agreement is expected to be signed in December 2023. Following this, the rest of the year and the entire next year of 2024 will be spent restoring the MMTS rolling stock and transferring it from the current excursion mode to a new passenger mode. Instead of two trains, five to six trains will be running on the route.

Then, from 2025 to 2027, new trains with a magnetic unloading system and an unmanned control system, which will replace all the old rolling stock, will be manufactured for the MMTS. Presumably, there will be ten of them. Developments of an unmanned train on a magnetic cushion at the MIT already exist, and all that remains is to adapt and supplement them.

After successful testing in Moscow, a universal transport system will be obtained, which can be adapted to any Russian region. The approximate cost of the project is not yet called.
