The modernization of the Moscow Monorail Transport System (MMTS) may begin as early as 2024 after a concession agreement is signed by a private investor and the Moscow government at the end of this year. TASS writes about this, referring to JSC Corporation "Moscow Institute of Thermal Technology" (MIT).
It is assumed that the agreement will be signed in December 2023. After that, the entire remainder of the year and the entire next year, 2024, will be used to restore the electric rolling stock of the MMTS and transfer it from the current excursion mode to the new passenger mode. Instead of two trains, five to six trains will run on the line.
Then, from 2025 to 2027, new trains with a magnetic unloading system and a driverless control system will be manufactured for the MMTS, which will replace the entire old electric rolling stock. Presumably, there will be ten of them. MIT already has developments for a driverless train on a magnetic cushion; they only need to be adapted and supplemented.
After successful testing in Moscow, a universal transport system will be created that can be adapted to any Russian region. The approximate cost of the project has not yet been announced.
