Rosmorport Registers First Russian Unmanned Electric Ferries

The certificates allow captains to remotely control the vessels with the option of switching to manual operation when navigating at sea

Rosmorport has begun issuing the first certificates for marine autonomous and remotely controlled surface vessels (MANS).

The first to receive official registration were the Russian unmanned electric ferries "Marshal Rokossovsky" and "General Chernyakhovsky".

Both eco-ferries operate on the "Seaport Ust-Luga – Seaport Kaliningrad" line.

The document allows Sitronics KT electric vessels to be remotely controlled with the option of switching to manual control when navigating at sea, and to manual control with decision-making support. For example, when passing through narrow passages and entering the port.

The captains control the vessels from St. Petersburg, from the territory of the Rosmorport remote control center.

Remote control is enabled by an autonomous navigation system, a traffic and maneuvering control system, a system for monitoring and observing the vessel's systems, and an optical system for analyzing the surrounding environment and the vessel's condition.
