The "Obereg" body armor (protection class Br5) produced by the Russian company "Oktava" during the Rostec "Our Crash" test protected against a 8.6 × 70 mm Lapua Magnum rifle bullet, which it was not designed for.
At the same time, a captured American body armor of a similar protection class could not withstand a standard bullet from the so-called 7.62 × 39 mm intermediate cartridge fired from an AK.
According to Pavel Pavlenko, director of the company "Oktava" (part of Rostec), the body armor of the same name consists of a substrate made of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene, followed by a ceramic plate, Kevlar and another additional layer. The last layer helps to reduce the scattering of fragments, and it also creates moisture insulation.
The weight of "Obereg" in full configuration is 11.5 kg. Now experts are working to reduce its weight to 10 kg. The market price of "Obereg" is 115 thousand rubles, and the American model, which could not withstand a bullet from an AK, costs over 200 thousand rubles.
