RIA Novosti reported details about the launch of the first lunar mission in the history of modern Russia. It is reported that the launch of the Soyuz-2.1b rocket with the Fregat booster and the Luna-25 automatic probe on board will take place at Vostochny at 2:10.57 Moscow time. The reserve launch time is 02:35 on August 12.
After the launch, already in space, the booster unit should put Luna-25 into a flight path to the Earth's natural satellite. This phase will last about 4.5 days. After that, the probe will enter the orbit of the Moon and will change it until it lands. Earlier, Roscosmos estimated the success of the mission at 70% - simply because this will be the first landing in a given place on the Moon. According to the plan, the station should work on the Moon for a year.
Meanwhile, the country is already working on new lunar vehicles – the Luna-26 orbital vehicle and the Luna-27 landing vehicle. Their launch is planned for 2027 and 2028. Luna-27 will be equipped with a drill for sampling regolith.
