The Japanese agency Yomiuri reported that the Japanese authorities plan to tighten the existing export restrictions against Russia: all cars with an engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters will be banned. Previously, a similar ban was introduced by the European Union with the 11th package of sanctions, and Japan, in fact, will bring its sanctions in line with European ones.
According to Yomiuri, the laws governing exports from Japan will be amended by the end of July, and may come into force as early as August. In general, the ban on the export of cars from Japan to Russia was discussed in April at the G7 summit, but it was not adopted then.
Japan is currently a key market for importing foreign cars to Russia. Thus, in June, more than 28 thousand cars were registered in Vladivostok, and 80% of them are from Japan.
