ABS and ESP systems have begun to be produced in Kostroma; they will be manufactured on a new production line of NPP Itelma. A new workshop with a fully automated production line was built specifically for this purpose. The project is fully commercial - no government subsidies were allocated for it. The production volume will be 850 thousand units per year, but it can be expanded to 1.2 million units per year.
"Even during the component crisis, we thought about implementing a similar project. Since there were no offers on the Russian market that could compete with global foreign suppliers. Last year, the situation worsened, and it became clear that the project was simply necessary. The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia provided active support in consolidating demand and close interaction between suppliers and automakers within the framework of the "Automotive Electronics" program. At the same time, budget funds were not used to implement the project," - said Alexey Vorobyov, General Director of NPP Itelma.
Previously, Russian cars (in particular, Lada) were equipped with Bosch ABS systems, which were also produced in Russia - at the Robert Bosch Samara enterprise. However, Bosch left the country, and the plant, which temporarily ceased operation, became the property of FSUE NAMI. NAMI plans to resume production of ABS and ESP units at the former Bosch plant from 2024, and reach its design capacity from 2025.
