According to MashTech, testing of self-driving trucks will begin within a month on the M-11 highway between Moscow and St. Petersburg. Later, Avtodor also plans to launch self-driving transport on the M-12 highway.
The first two of five self-driving KamAZ trucks with the fourth level of autonomy were assembled in February of this year, and it is planned to produce up to 50 of these tractors in 2024. At first, there will be operators in the cars (not behind the wheel, but in the passenger seat), but the cars will drive completely autonomously. Operators may be abandoned as early as 2025.
In December 2021, KamAZ estimated its self-driving car at 19 million rubles. But the price of the current modernized car is probably higher – about 22 million rubles. For comparison, the cost of a regular KamAZ K5 is about 10 million rubles.
