A fully autonomous tram will appear in St. Petersburg in 2026

Trams with artificial intelligence technologies already work in the city

The rolling stock manufacturer "PK Transport Systems", Cognitive Pilot company (a joint venture of Sber and Cognitive Technologies) and Petersburg’s "Gorelectrotransport" have signed an agreement to develop and implement a fully autonomous tram in St. Petersburg by 2026.

Trams already operate in the city with AI technologies - a complex of active driver assistance. Such rolling stock went on routes in 2022, but fully autonomous transport will take movement to a new level of safety.

"Today we have launched trams on the line with elements of artificial intelligence. Yes, there are many problems and a lot that needs to be improved. But by signing an agreement, we set the next goal - the creation of a fully automated tram. And we will definitely achieve it", — said the director of SPB GUP “Gorelectrotransport” Denis Minkin.
