The rolling stock manufacturer "PK Transport Systems", Cognitive Pilot (a joint venture between Sber and Cognitive Technologies), and St. Petersburg's "Gorelectrotrans" have signed an agreement to develop and implement a fully autonomous tram in St. Petersburg by 2026.
The city already has trams with AI technologies – a driver assistance system. Such rolling stock was launched on routes in 2022, but fully autonomous transport will take traffic to a new level of safety.
«Today, we have launched trams on the lines with elements of artificial intelligence. Yes, there are many problems and many things that need to be improved. But by signing the agreement, we are setting the next goal — creating a fully automated tram. And we will certainly achieve it», — said Denis Minkin, Director of St. Petersburg State Unitary Enterprise "Gorelectrotrans".
