This fall, new "Sber" terminals with biometrics support will appear in Russian retail stores. This was announced by Sergey Shubochkin, Director of the "Acquiring" division of "Sber".
"At the checkout, the buyer will be able to choose biometrics as a payment method, after which the technology will start the process: you smile - the payment is done," he explained the principle of payment using biometrics.
According to the top manager, "Sber" has experimented with different payment methods, but in the case of biometrics, many difficulties arise. For example, it is necessary to make sure that there is a living person in front of the terminal's camera, and not a photo of him. Therefore, when paying with biometrics, "Sber" will use "advanced technological solutions in terms of reliability and stability".
"Sber" currently has about 2 million POS terminals throughout Russia that need to be modernized. The bank will systematically update them, introducing "modern devices with card reading functions, a color display with multi-touch function and a camera for reading QR codes and paying with biometrics." The first batch of terminals with "smile payment", numbering several thousand, will be installed this fall.
