Acceptance of applications for biometric passports to resume in Russia from June 1

Acceptance of applications was suspended on February 2 amid a shortage of microchips embedded in the passport form

Acceptance of applications for biometric passports resumes on June 1, according to Russian Interior Ministry spokeswoman Irina Volk.

Acceptance of applications for a passport with an electronic storage medium resumes on June 1 of this year,” she said. Irina Volk added that an application can be submitted through the territorial body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the MFC or through the State Services.

As a reminder, acceptance of applications for biometric passports was suspended on February 2 of this year amid a shortage of microchips embedded in the document form. Goznak then reported that Micron, the microchip manufacturer, needed to reconfigure the equipment.
